Sweet Almond Pastry Delight (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

→ Pastry and filling

01 - 1 large egg
02 - 1 tablespoon water
03 - 8 oz almond paste
04 - ¼ cup granulated sugar
05 - 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
06 - 1 sheet puff pastry
07 - ¼ cup sliced almonds

# Instructions:

01 - Preheat oven to 400°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
02 - In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water. Set aside.
03 - In a food processor or stand mixer, combine almond paste, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract. Mix until well combined.
04 - Unfold the puff pastry sheet on the prepared baking sheet. Lightly roll it with a rolling pin to slightly enlarge it.
05 - Cut slits 1 inch apart down each side of the puff pastry, leaving a 1/2-inch border on both sides of the center where the filling will go. Spread the almond mixture evenly down the center of the pastry.
06 - Starting at one end, fold the pastry strips over the almond filling on a diagonal, alternating sides to create a braided pattern.
07 - Brush the braided pastry lightly with the egg wash and sprinkle with sliced almonds.
08 - Bake the pastry for 10 minutes at 400°F. Then, reduce the oven temperature to 375°F and continue baking for 17 to 20 minutes, or until golden brown.
09 - Let the pastry cool on the baking sheet for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

# Notes:

01 - Thaw the puff pastry in the refrigerator overnight for best results. Alternatively, thaw it at room temperature until pliable enough to unfold.
02 - For additional flavor, spread Nutella over the almond mixture before braiding the pastry.
03 - Ensure the puff pastry is not too cold or overly warm to prevent cracking or sogginess.
