Cook breakfast sausage in a hot skillet over medium heat until no pink remains. Use a spatula to crumble it as it cooks, approximately 10 minutes. Remove and set aside.

Combine pancake mix and water in a large bowl. Mix until just combined, avoiding overmixing.

Add cooked sausage, shredded cheddar cheese, and maple syrup to the pancake batter. Gently fold until combined.

Spoon approximately 1 tablespoon of the mixture into each compartment of a mini muffin pan.
